HOW PERSONAL SHOPPERS SAVE YOU MONEY BY AVOIDING FASHION MISTAKES

In the world of fashion, trends come and go, but the pressure to look stylish while maintaining a functional wardrobe remains constant. With busy schedules and a multitude of shopping options, it’s easy to make impulsive purchases or fall for fleeting trends that don’t suit your style. Over time, these choices can accumulate into wasted money and an overflowing wardrobe of unworn clothes.

Personal shopper Stefania helps a client with her personal shopping

Personal shopper—a professional who helps you curate your wardrobe with care, precision, and expertise, saving you both time and money. Whether through in-person shopping or curated online shopping, help avoid costly fashion mistakes, ensuring that each purchase is a smart investment in your personal style.

The Hidden Cost of Fashion Mistakes

We've all been there—standing in front of the wardrobe full of clothes and feeling like we have nothing to wear. Often, this stems from buying items that don't align with our true style, don't fit properly, or don't work well with other pieces we already own. These missteps often result in wasted money and clothing items gathering dust, rather than serving their intended purpose.

Common fashion mistakes include:

  1. Impulse Buys: Buying something on sale or because it looks good on the mannequin, but it doesn’t fit your personal style.

  2. Following Trends Blindly: Trendy items that only last a season before becoming outdated.

  3. Buying Poor Quality: Opting for cheaper, low-quality fabrics that wear out quickly, forcing you to replace them more frequently.

  4. Size Misjudgments: Purchasing clothing that doesn’t fit well, leading to discomfort or costly alterations.

  5. One-Time Pieces: Buying an outfit for a specific event that you’ll never wear again.

Each of these mistakes represents money that could have been saved or spent more wisely on versatile, high-quality pieces that truly enhance your wardrobe. This is where personal shoppers can step in to provide tailored guidance that helps you avoid these pitfalls.

How Personal Shoppers Prevent Fashion Mistakes

Personal shoppers help clients avoid costly fashion errors by offering expert guidance, selecting flattering styles, and curating cohesive wardrobes.

1. Curating a Cohesive Wardrobe

One of the key services personal shoppers offer is creating a cohesive wardrobe that suits your lifestyle, body type, and personal preferences. Rather than buying standalone items that don’t integrate with what you already own, personal shoppers focus on building a versatile wardrobe where every piece works together. This helps you avoid the common mistake of having a closet full of random, mismatched items that never get worn.

A professional stylist will assess your existing wardrobe and identify gaps. From there, they can make strategic recommendations on what to add to your collection. This prevents you from overspending on unnecessary items and ensures you have a variety of outfits that suit different occasions and can be mixed and matched.

Interested in how this works? Explore our Personal Shopping service to see how our experts can help you build the perfect wardrobe. You can also choose to start with a full wardrobe edit through our Wardrobe Stylist service, which focuses on maximising your existing clothing collection before adding new pieces.

2. Avoiding Impulse Buys

Impulse buying is a costly habit. How many times have you bought something on sale, only to find that it doesn't fit well or doesn't suit your style? Personal shoppers are trained to avoid such temptations. Instead of focusing on short-term satisfaction, they guide you toward purchasing pieces that have long-term value.

Whether you’re shopping in-person with a stylist or using an online personal shopping service, your personal shopper helps keep your buying decisions grounded in your wardrobe goals and budget, preventing costly impulse purchases. By curating a selection of items in advance, your shopper ensures that each piece complements your personal style, saving you money in the long run by avoiding wasteful spending.

Learn more about how our Curated Online Shopping service can still provide the same level of guidance when it comes to Online Shopping.

3. Prioritising Quality Over Quantity

Another mistake many people make is opting for cheaper, trendy items that don’t stand the test of time. While it may seem like you’re saving money by buying inexpensive clothes, these items often wear out quickly or fall out of fashion, leading to more frequent replacements.

Personal shoppers encourage you to focus on quality over quantity. They steer you toward investment pieces—timeless, high-quality items that are versatile and durable. These pieces might have a higher upfront cost, but they last longer, meaning you won’t need to constantly refresh your wardrobe. Over time, investing in fewer, better pieces saves you money, as you won’t be wasting it on clothing that deteriorates quickly.

By guiding you to prioritise quality and avoid fast fashion, personal shoppers save you from making frequent, low-quality purchases that drain your budget.

4. Personalised Fit and Sizing Guidance

One of the biggest frustrations when shopping, especially online, is getting the wrong fit. Poorly fitting clothes often end up at the back of the wardrobe, never to be worn, representing wasted money.

A personal shopper takes the guesswork out of sizing by understanding your body shape and selecting pieces that will fit and flatter you perfectly. When shopping in person, your stylist can make on-the-spot recommendations based on how items look and feel when you try them on. With online personal shopping services, you’ll receive sizing tips and brand recommendations to ensure that you’re making the right choice, even when buying remotely.

To explore more about the differences between in-person and online shopping, read our guide on Personal Shopping vs. Online Personal Shopping: Which Service is Right for You?.

5. Maximising Your Existing Wardrobe

A personal shopper's role isn't just about helping you buy new clothes—they also help you make the most of what you already own. By evaluating your current wardrobe, a professional stylist can show you how to wear your existing clothes in new ways, creating fresh looks without the need to spend money on new purchases.

This approach not only saves you money but also reduces the clutter in your wardrobe, ensuring that every piece you own serves a purpose. Personal shoppers help you focus on getting the most value from your clothing investments.

6. Smart Shopping for Special Occasions

Special occasions can lead to significant fashion mistakes. Whether it’s a wedding, a formal event, or a business function, it’s tempting to buy something expensive that you may only wear once. Personal shoppers prevent this by guiding you to buy versatile pieces that can be styled in different ways or worn across multiple occasions.

For instance, instead of buying an elaborate evening dress that only works for one event, a personal shopper might recommend a timeless, versatile option that can be dressed up or down, saving you from unnecessary future purchases.

7. Expert Trend Management

Following every fashion trend can be an expensive hobby, especially since trends can be fleeting. Personal shoppers help you navigate trends wisely. They’ll recommend which trends are worth investing in based on your personal style, ensuring that you only buy pieces that will enhance your long-term wardrobe.

Rather than spending money on fast fashion or trendy pieces that will fall out of favour after a season, a personal shopper helps you build a wardrobe that evolves with time, with trend pieces that fit seamlessly into your style without dominating it.

8. Managing Your Fashion Budget

Personal shoppers work with your budget in mind. Whether you have a tight budget or room to splurge, they ensure that every piece of clothing you buy offers value and aligns with your financial goals. By focusing on investment pieces and avoiding impulse purchases, personal shoppers keep your wardrobe costs under control while still allowing you to look your best.

Why Working with a Personal Shopper is a Smart Investment

Many people assume that personal shopping services are a luxury reserved for the wealthy, but the truth is that hiring a personal shopper is a cost-effective solution for anyone looking to make better buying decisions. The guidance and expertise you receive ultimately save you money by preventing common fashion mistakes, ensuring that every item you buy adds true value to your wardrobe.

Instead of wasting money on poor-quality, ill-fitting, or impractical clothing, you’ll have a wardrobe filled with versatile, high-quality pieces that reflect your personal style. A personal shopper isn’t just an expense—it’s a smart investment that pays off through better buying decisions and a more cohesive, functional wardrobe.

PERSONAL SHOPPING VS. ONLINE PERSONAL SHOPPING: WHICH SERVICE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

In today’s fast-paced world, looking and feeling your best is more important than ever. With the rise of personal shopping services, whether in-person or online, building a wardrobe that fits your personal style and needs has never been easier. But with so many options available, you might wonder which service best suits your lifestyle: traditional Personal Shopping or the more convenient Curated Online Shopping.

Both services offer unique advantages, catering to different needs, schedules, and preferences. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the key differences between these two options, examining the benefits and challenges of each so you can make an informed decision.

The Modern Dilemma: What Kind of Shopper Are You?

Before diving into the comparison, it’s important to understand your shopping habits. Each of us approaches fashion and wardrobe curation differently. Do you love the experience of being in a store, touching fabrics, and trying on outfits before making a decision? Or are you more of a digital native, who enjoys the ease of shopping from home with curated selections sent directly to your inbox?

Your preferences, lifestyle, and even geographic location can significantly influence which personal shopping service will serve you best.

What is Personal Shopping?

Personal shopping is a service where a professional stylist helps clients curate a wardrobe tailored to their style, body type, and budget. Once exclusive to celebrities, it is now accessible to a wider audience, streamlining personal style and wardrobe decisions.

Many people use personal shoppers to help them streamline their wardrobe, enhance their personal style, or prepare for special occasions.

A Personal Shopping experience typically involves meeting your stylist in person, where they guide you through a curated shopping session based on your preferences, body type, and budget.

The Process

The process begins with a consultation to discuss your personal style, wardrobe goals, and any upcoming events or needs. Your stylist will take this information and pre-select items for you to try on during a session at a high-end department store or boutique. The stylist may accompany you throughout the store, offering suggestions, pulling together complete outfits, and advising on how different pieces can work together.

The Benefits of Personal Shopping

  1. Immediate, Real-Time Feedback

One of the most obvious advantages of Personal Shopping is the real-time feedback you receive. Your stylist is there with you, offering advice and adjusting their selections based on your preferences as you try on different items. This hands-on approach allows for immediate adjustments, ensuring the end result is tailored perfectly to your taste.

  2. Physical Experience

Unlike shopping online, in-person shopping gives you the chance to see, touch, and feel the fabrics before you make a purchase. You can see how clothing fits and flows on your body in real-time, which helps prevent buying items that don’t quite work once you try them on at home. For many, the tactile experience of shopping is important, making this option appealing.

  3. Expertise at Your Fingertips

Having a professional stylist at your side can make a world of difference. They’re there to make expert recommendations, suggest brands or items you may not have considered, and provide styling tips on the spot. Whether you're shopping for a complete wardrobe overhaul or selecting a few key pieces, a personal stylist can help you build outfits that work for your unique lifestyle and body shape.

  4. Wardrobe Customisation

Your personal shopper can help you build a wardrobe tailored to your specific needs, taking into account everything from your lifestyle (workwear, casual wear, evening events) to colour palettes and even seasonal transitions. This personalisation ensures that every piece you buy can integrate seamlessly into your current wardrobe.

The Challenges of Personal Shopping

  1. Time Commitment
Personal shopping requires you to dedicate time to physically meet with your stylist and visit stores. For busy professionals or those with a packed schedule, finding time to meet in person can be a challenge.

  2. Location Constraints
Not all personal shopping services are available in every city, and some may be limited to high-end department stores or specific boutiques. If you live in a smaller town or away from major shopping centres, you may find it difficult to access in-person services.

  3. Cost
While the cost of personal shopping has become more affordable in recent years, in-person services are often more expensive than their online counterparts. In addition to paying for the stylist’s time, you may also be encouraged to purchase higher-end items, which can add up quickly.

What is Curated Online Shopping?

Curated Online Shopping allows clients to receive personalised styling advice from a professional stylist remotely, offering convenience and flexibility by providing tailored clothing recommendations online.

The rise of e-commerce has transformed the way we shop, and personal shopping is no exception. With the growing popularity of online personal shopping services, you can now access a professional stylist from the comfort of your home. This option is perfect for those who value convenience and flexibility.

At One Of A Style, our Curated Online Shopping service is designed to bring the same level of personalised styling expertise to your digital doorstep.

The Process

Curated Online Shopping typically begins with an in-depth consultation, conducted either over the phone or via an online questionnaire. This allows your stylist to get a sense of your style, wardrobe needs, and budget. Once they have this information, they will put together a selection of items tailored to your preferences, sending you a curated list or digital lookbook.

You can then purchase the items online, trying them on at home and deciding what works best for you. Many services offer easy returns, allowing you to send back any items that don’t fit or meet your expectations.

The Benefits of Curated Online Shopping

  1. Convenience at Your Fingertips

One of the biggest advantages of Curated Online Shopping is the convenience it offers. You can shop from anywhere – whether you’re at home, at work, or even on holiday. No need to travel to stores, find parking, or fit shopping into your busy schedule. Everything is done online, making it perfect for those with limited time.

  2. Personalised Selections

Just like in-person services, online personal shoppers provide you with tailored recommendations based on your style, preferences, and budget. Many services offer digital lookbooks or personalised shopping lists, allowing you to review and purchase items at your own pace.

  3. Try On at Your Own Pace

Shopping online gives you the freedom to try on items at your leisure, without the pressure of fitting rooms or store time limits. You can take the time to mix and match pieces with your existing wardrobe, see how items fit in different lighting, and make thoughtful purchasing decisions.

  4. Accessible Anywhere

One of the major benefits of online shopping is that it’s accessible no matter where you are. Whether you live in a major city or a rural area, Curated Online Shopping allows you to access the expertise of a personal stylist without having to leave your home.

The Challenges of Curated Online Shopping:

  1. Lack of Immediate Feedback
While online services provide tailored selections, you won’t receive real-time feedback like you would in a store. If you’re unsure about how something fits or how to style a particular piece, you’ll need to reach out to your stylist online, which can take time.

  2. Fit and Sizing Issues
Shopping online means you can’t try on items before purchasing them. This can lead to potential fit and sizing issues, requiring you to return or exchange items if they don’t work.

  3. Delayed Gratification
Unlike in-person shopping, where you can walk away with your purchases on the same day, online shopping requires you to wait for delivery. This can be frustrating if you need items for an upcoming event or trip.

Comparing the Two: Which One is Right for You?

Now that we’ve explored the benefits and challenges of each option, how do you decide which service is right for you? Here’s a quick comparison:

Personal Shopping vs Online Personal Shopping
FeaturePersonal ShoppingCurated Online Shopping
ConvenienceRequires time and travel to meet with a stylist in person.Accessible from anywhere, no need to leave home.
FeedbackReal-time, in-person feedback from a stylist.Delayed feedback, often through emails or chats.
Physical ExperienceTry on items immediately in-store, see how they fit and feel.Purchase items online, try them at home at your own pace.
CostMay involve higher costs, including stylist fees and high-end brands.More flexible pricing options, and often more affordable.

GUIDE TO PERSONAL SHOPPING: HOW TO MINIMISE RETURNS & HAVE A SUCCESSFUL SHOPPING TRIP

How can I make sure my shopping trips are more successful (and sustainable)?

In our latest blog, we ask our newest team member, Nathalie, her tips and advice for making your online & high street shopping trips more enjoyable

In this interview with our newest stylist, Nathalie, I discuss the importance of sustainable shopping, and how to effectively maximise your time and minimise returns when you go shopping for new clothes to add to your wardrobe.

Stefania: Nathalie, welcome to the team! It’s fantastic to have you here. As our newest personal stylist, I know you bring a wealth of experience and passion to the table. Today, I’d love to talk with you about something that often frustrates our clients—returns. We've all been there: you buy something you love in the shop, but when you get home, it just doesn’t work. What are your top tips for minimising returns and making sure a shopping trip is successful?

Nathalie: Thank you, Stefania! I’m thrilled to be here and to share my thoughts on this topic. Minimising returns really comes down to preparation, understanding your personal style, and being mindful during the shopping process. One of the most important steps is knowing your body shape and what flatters it. Before you even step foot in a shop, having a clear idea of what styles, cuts, and colours work best for you can save a lot of time and reduce the likelihood of buying something that doesn’t quite fit or flatter.

Stefania: That’s great advice. What about the actual shopping experience? How can clients ensure they’re making the right choices in the moment?

Nathalie: When you’re shopping, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and buy something just because it’s trendy or because it looks great on the mannequin. But it’s essential to think about how it fits into your existing wardrobe. Ask yourself: Can I style this with at least three different outfits I already own? If the answer is no, it might not be the best choice.

Another tip is to pay close attention to the fabric and quality. It’s tempting to go for a quick fix, but investing in pieces that are well-made and durable will serve you better in the long run. And don’t be afraid to try things on—walk around in them, see how they feel, and make sure they’re comfortable. If something feels off in the fitting room, it’s likely not going to get better at home.

Stefania: I couldn’t agree more. Comfort is key, and it’s something we always stress to our clients. What about online shopping? That’s an area where returns seem almost inevitable for many people. Do you have any specific tips for shopping online?

Nathalie: Online shopping can be tricky, but there are ways to make it more successful. First, always check the size guide and read customer reviews, especially when you’re shopping with a brand for the first time. Reviews often give insights into how an item fits and whether you might need to size up or down.

Secondly, if possible, stick to brands and styles you’re familiar with. You’re more likely to be satisfied with your purchase if you know how the brand’s sizing and cuts typically fit your body. And don’t forget to check the return policy before you buy—knowing you can easily return or exchange an item gives you peace of mind and can encourage you to try new things without too much risk.

Stefania: Excellent points! It’s all about being informed and mindful. Before we wrap up, do you have any final advice for someone who wants to have a truly successful shopping trip, whether it’s in-store or online?

Nathalie: My final piece of advice would be to trust your instincts and take your time. Shopping should be an enjoyable experience, not something rushed or stressful. If you’re unsure about a piece, don’t feel pressured to buy it on the spot. Take a moment to think about it, or even sleep on it if you’re shopping online. Often, that little bit of extra time can help you make a more confident decision.

And if you’re really looking to minimise returns and ensure that everything you buy is perfect for you, consider working with a personal stylist. We can provide that extra bit of guidance and expertise to help you make choices that you’ll love for years to come.

Stefania: Thank you, Nathalie! That’s such valuable advice. I’m sure our readers will find these tips incredibly helpful. And speaking of personal styling, I’d love to share a bit more about your background with them.

SUMMER CAPSULE WARDROBE: YOUR ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR EFFORTLESS STYLE

Summer is a time for sun, fun, and fashion. The perfect summer capsule wardrobe combines versatility, comfort, and style, allowing you to create multiple looks with minimal effort.

What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a carefully curated collection of clothing that you can mix and match to create a variety of outfits. The concept, introduced by Susie Faux in the 1970s, aims to streamline your closet and simplify your style decisions.

For summer, this means selecting lightweight, breathable pieces that can take you from the office to the beach and everything in between.

Benefits of a Summer Capsule Wardrobe

  • Simplifies daily outfit choices

  • Reduces decision fatigue

  • Encourages mindful shopping

  • Saves money and time

  • Promotes sustainability by reducing fashion waste

Key Elements of a Summer Capsule Wardrobe

To build a functional and fashionable summer capsule wardrobe, focus on these essential elements:

  1. Neutral Basics

  • White T-Shirt: A classic white tee is a versatile piece that pairs well with everything from jeans to skirts.

  • Tank Tops: Opt for neutral colors like white, black, and beige.

  • Shorts and Skirts: Choose denim shorts and a neutral skirt that can be dressed up or down.

2. Statement Pieces

  • Patterned Blouse: A floral or patterned blouse adds a pop of color and personality.

  • Maxi Dress: Perfect for hot days and can be dressed up with accessories for evening wear.

  • Lightweight Cardigan: Ideal for cooler evenings or air-conditioned spaces.

3. Versatile Bottoms

  • Jeans: A pair of well-fitting jeans is a must-have. Opt for a lighter wash for summer.

7. Swimwear

  • Classic One-Piece or Bikini: Choose a style that you feel confident and comfortable in.

Building Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Step 1: Evaluate Your Current Wardrobe

Start by assessing what you already have. Lay out your summer clothes and identify items that fit well, make you feel confident, and are versatile enough to be worn in different settings. Our Wardrobe Edit service can assist you in this process, helping you determine which pieces to keep, donate, or replace.

Step 2: Identify Your Style Needs

Consider your daily activities and lifestyle. Do you need more casual pieces for weekend outings, or are you looking for professional attire for the office? A personal stylist can help you tailor your capsule wardrobe to fit your specific needs and preferences.

Step 3: Choose a Colour Palette

Selecting a cohesive colour palette makes it easier to mix and match your pieces. For summer, consider lighter shades and bright, cheerful colours. Incorporate neutrals like white, beige, and navy, with a few statement colours that complement your skin tone. To find the perfect colors that suit you best, consider visiting our Colour Clinic for a comprehensive colour analysis.

Step 4: Invest in Quality Basics

Quality over quantity is key. Invest in well-made basics that will last through the season and beyond. Our personal shopper service can help you find high-quality pieces that fit your budget and style.

Incorporate a few statement pieces that reflect your personal style and can be dressed up or down. These items will add personality and variety to your wardrobe.

PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: SUMMER HOLIDAY LOOKS

If you’re looking for some summer outfit inspiration you are in the right place! In this blog, I am going to share 5 of my favourite summer outfit ideas for you to play with during the warmer months.

The sun is out, and whether you're embracing the heat and revelling in it, or feeling overwhelmed by the absence of your autumn/winter jumpers, knowing what to wear during the warmer months can be daunting. If you're seeking some summer outfit inspiration, you're in the right place! In this blog, I'll share five of my favourite summer outfit ideas for you to experiment with during the sunnier season.

Midi Skirt and a Tee

If you know me, you'll know I adore the combination of a graphic tee and a midi skirt! Not only is it perfect for feeling summery and free, but it also suits a variety of occasions. Whether I'm heading to work meetings or having brunch with friends, I feel my outfit is always appropriate with just a change of accessories.

As the weather heats up, you'll want to feel cool and comfortable. The beauty of this outfit is its simplicity and ease, perfect for those rushed mornings when you need something stylish that suits your personal taste.

You can express your style through the graphic tee you choose – whether it’s a glittery quote, a classic rock tee, or a v-neck white tee – it works across different personality types. The same goes for the midi skirt. From pleated, colourful skirts to leather-look midis that bring out your inner rock chick, there are plenty of options to make this outfit your own!

Floaty Dresses

Floaty dresses are a staple for summer. They’re breezy, comfortable, and effortlessly chic. You can choose a floral print for a classic summer look or go for bold, solid colours to make a statement. Pair with sandals for a casual day out or dress it up with wedges for an evening gathering.

Denim Shorts and a Blouse

Denim shorts paired with a lightweight blouse create a stylish yet comfortable look. Opt for high-waisted shorts for a flattering fit and choose a blouse with a fun pattern or unique details. This outfit is versatile enough for running errands or enjoying a day at the beach.

Source: an Indigo Day

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits are a fantastic all-in-one option that can be dressed up or down. Choose a lightweight fabric for maximum comfort in the heat. A sleeveless jumpsuit with a cinched waist can be incredibly flattering and easy to accessorise with statement jewellery or a cute hat.

Linen Trousers and a Tank Top

For a more polished summer look, linen trousers paired with a tank top are a great choice. Linen is breathable and perfect for hot weather. Choose a neutral colour for versatility, and complete the outfit with a pair of espadrilles or slip-on loafers.

With these outfit ideas, you'll be ready to take on the summer months with style and confidence. Enjoy the sun and have fun experimenting with your summer wardrobe!

Embracing the Capsule Wardrobe: Finding Joy in Less

Can you really find joy in a smaller, capsule wardrobe?

I share my journey of being a shopaholic to confronting the chaos of my closet and finding joy in a capsule wardrobe.

In a world inundated with fast fashion and overflowing closets, finding joy in a smaller, more concise wardrobe might seem like a daunting task. However, as someone who has undergone a transformative journey from fashion excess to the simplicity of a capsule wardrobe, I can attest to the incredible power it holds in not just simplifying your style, but also in unlocking a sense of empowerment and joy.

Confessions of a Former Shopaholic

Hands up, I confess: I used to do it all wrong. From being a shopaholic to hoarding fast fashion pieces, my wardrobe was once bursting at the seams with items I rarely wore. However, life had other plans for me, and a move from Italy to London nine years ago forced me to confront the chaos of my closet and reevaluate my relationship with fashion.

The Journey to Wardrobe Renaissance

Downsizing my closet became a necessity, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It marked the beginning of my journey towards a wardrobe renaissance. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of letting go of my excess of clothing, I embraced it as an opportunity to redefine my personal style and embrace a more intentional approach to dressing.

Personal Styling Principles

One of the pivotal moments in my wardrobe transformation was applying the same styling principles I used on others to myself. I began to discern what truly empowered me and what was merely cluttering my closet. By focusing on pieces that complemented my figure, lifestyle, and personality, I was able to curate a wardrobe that reflected my authentic self.

Strategic Shopping

Gone were the days of aimlessly browsing through racks of clothing in pursuit of the latest trends. Instead, I adopted a more strategic approach to shopping. Every purchase became a deliberate choice, guided by the principles of quality over quantity. By investing in fewer, but higher-quality pieces, I not only reduced clutter but also cultivated a collection of timeless staples that stood the test of time.

Quality over Quantity

The shift from a mindset of quantity to one of quality was a game-changer. Rather than succumbing to the allure of cheap, disposable fashion, I learned to appreciate the craftsmanship and durability of well-made garments. This shift not only had a positive impact on my wardrobe but also on my overall mindset towards consumption and sustainability.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: THE BASICS OF PERSONAL STYLING - HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR UNIQUE STYLE

Your unique style is something you can curate, enjoy and discover, with a few simple tips and insights. As a personal stylist myself, I have gone through a few style changes. When I was in Italy, in a fashion house, then when I became a Mum, following that when I launched my own business, and when I celebrated certain milestones. These may be moments for you where you feel you need to mould your wardrobe slightly, but that doesn’t mean your core unique personal style changes.

In this article I wanted to share with you a few tips to help you discover how to create your own personal style, and make a wardrobe that you love.

Personal style is often something my clients feel is “out of reach” or only for those with their own team of stylists to help them curate expensive, large, uneconomical wardrobes. But what if I told you this isn’t what personal styling is about?

Your unique style is something you can curate, enjoy and discover, with a few simple tips and insights. As a personal stylist myself, I have gone through a few style changes. When I was in Italy, in a fashion house, then when I became a Mum, following that when I launched my own business, and when I celebrated certain milestones. These may be moments for you where you feel you need to mould your wardrobe slightly, but that doesn’t mean your core unique personal style changes.

In this article I wanted to share with you a few tips to help you discover how to create your own personal style, and make a wardrobe that you love.

Why is a unique style something to embrace?

Do you have a wardrobe that feels scattered, unauthentic or filled with garments you feel you should love but just don’t quite sit right? This is a wardrobe that doesn’t reflect your personal style. You may have to wear a uniform, or feel that you have to follow certain expectations in your own life, so you’re making investments in clothes that others impose upon you, rather than your own.

A unique style is something that can help you find the stores, clothes, outfits, patterns, and shapes that you feel your best in. It will reflect your personality (as is in the name!) and you will finally feel “yourself” in the pieces you put together. The transformation and relaxation this can give you is priceless. I promise you, when you discover your own unique style, your wardrobe and confidence will fall more in place than before. Just like finding a hobby you love, a personal style that is truly yours will bring you joy and comfort.

Start by finding inspiration

The easiest way to start finding your personal style is by finding others who have a style you love. Look on Instagram, find celebrities, and utilise Pinterest to collate a storyboard of inspiration for your style.

Being able to quickly look at a collection of those you find inspiring in terms of fashion, then helps you consider how you can reflect this in your wardrobe.

If you’re finding it difficult to do, speak with a friend and ask them to share who they feel are the top celebrities that are similar to your personality. This can then help you search for similar people to get more ideas!

Backwards picture search/Link to Know

You may have seen that plenty of Instagram “influencers” share in their content to “click the link in my bio” to shop their wardrobe. This is done with an app called “Link to Know”. The great thing about this app is you can search based on styles, trending, and even follow creators you like. This gives you the opportunity to physically shop their wardrobe so you can replicate your own creations. This is great if you find it difficult to create outfits on your own.

Another way to do this is to “backwards picture search” on google, by inputting a picture to Google and using the shopping option. Apps like Asos also have this option in their search function too, and they will use the picture you have uploaded and suggest garments that the AI can see.

Consider the personality you have

One of the first things I do with my clients during a colour and style clinic, is finding out all about their own personality. We go through different styles like abstract and romantic (there are lots of different ones!) to then make a board that reflects them. There may be mixes of the different styles with one main style at the top. This can then influence the pieces that you’ll feel your best in.

You can find out even more about the different style personalities, and how to define them, in our blog post, here, or book a colour and style clinic with me to work together.

This personal style base can then work for your outfits, while you can curate outfits that work with your daily needs such as work and family, without feeling outside of yourself.

Find the colours and patterns you love

When you find colours and patterns that make you joyous, your wardrobe will be filled with pieces you love! Colour has a strong relationship with mindfulness and happiness. Whether you love deep rich colours or bright ones, find the colours that make you feel joy.

It may feel a little overwhelming to pack your once neutral wardrobe with colour and pattern straight away, so take it in stages! Accessories, handbags, even nail varnish, can be an inexpensive solution for you to start.

If you want to find the colours that would work best for your skin tone, book in for a Colour Clinic, and we can do this together. This will also provide you with your full fabric book of the colours that work together, including your base colours, neutrals and accent colours. This will help you put colours together in your wardrobe and create outfits that work in synergy.

The most important thing that fashion should do for you is make you feel great. On days when you may feel low, an outfit should be easy to pull together, because you have a wardrobe that feels truly “you”. If this isn’t how you are feeling right now about your wardrobe, I’d love to support you.

PERSONAL SHOPPING TIPS: 5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED A PERSONAL SHOPPER

Beyond the glitz and glamour, a personal shopper serves as an indispensable ally, providing support and expertise to streamline your shopping experience, saving you both time and stress.

If you’re wondering if a personal shopper is a solution that would work for you, here are some the main reasons our clients come to us.

In a world where time is of the essence, personal shopping has transcended its high-end, celebrity-exclusive image to become a more accessible and practical solution for individuals from all walks of life. Beyond the glitz and glamour, a personal shopper serves as an indispensable ally, providing support and expertise to streamline your shopping experience, saving you both time and stress.

If you’re wondering if a personal shopper is a solution that would work for you, here are some the main reasons our clients come to us.

1. Time Saver Extraordinaire

Let's be honest – scouring stores and online platforms for that perfect outfit or thoughtful gift can be an arduous and time-consuming task. Enter the personal shopper, your time-saving superhero. By delegating the search for ideal items to a professional, you reclaim precious moments in your busy schedule. Whether you're a career-driven professional, a busy parent, or someone with a hectic lifestyle, having a personal shopper means less time navigating crowded shops and more time for the things that truly matter.

2. Fashion expertise, at your fingertips

Navigating the ever-evolving landscape of fashion trends can be overwhelming. A personal shopper, armed with up-to-date knowledge of the latest styles, becomes your fashion oracle. They possess the expertise to curate a wardrobe tailored to your individual style, body type, and budget. Say goodbye to fashion faux pas and embrace a wardrobe that reflects your personality and keeps you on trend without the stress of keeping up with the ever-changing fashion scene.

3. Stress Reduction

Decision fatigue is a real concern in our modern, fast-paced lives. The constant barrage of choices, especially when it comes to shopping, can lead to stress and overwhelm. A personal shopper acts as your stress reduction guru by narrowing down options, presenting you with choices that align with your preferences. With their guidance, you can sidestep decision fatigue and enjoy a more relaxed and enjoyable shopping experience.

4. Special Occasions, Simplified

Have a big event on the horizon? The search for the perfect outfit can turn into a daunting task. Here's where a personal shopper truly shines. Whether it's a wedding, a gala, or a milestone celebration, your personal shopper will help you navigate the myriad of options to find the ideal attire for the occasion. No more last-minute panics or compromises – just the confidence that comes with knowing you look your absolute best.

5. Financial Wisdom

Contrary to popular belief, employing a personal shopper can actually be a cost-efficient choice. How? By preventing impulsive purchases and guiding you towards quality investments. Personal shoppers are adept at discerning between fleeting trends and timeless pieces, ensuring that every pound spent contributes to a wardrobe that stands the test of time. In the long run, this strategic approach to shopping can save you money while enhancing the overall quality of your wardrobe.

Consider welcoming a personal shopper into your life and reap the benefits of convenience, style, and peace of mind. No longer reserved for the elite, personal shopping is a service designed to make your life easier and more enjoyable. PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: GUIDE TO PLANNING YOUR SEASONAL SHOPPING

If you’re unsure of how to start your seasonal shopping trip, and you want to add new pieces to your wardrobe for the new season, here is my guide to planning for seasonal shopping and how to make the best use of your budget.

As a new season is welcomed, this may mean you need to head to the shops to get essentials for your wardrobe. Seasonal shopping is something many of us do as our wardrobes require a refresh, past pieces no longer serve us, or we want a new piece to love for the season!

While this can be fun for many, heading to the shops can also mean expensive trips that may not result in the most economical results. I am all for shopping, but shopping effectively is where my passion lies.

With sustainability so important for our environment, investing in pieces that last for years rather than one season, is something we all need to be mindful of. With that in mind, if you want to add new pieces to your wardrobe for the new season, here is my guide to seasonal shopping and how to make the best use of your budget.

Know your budget

Talking of budget, this is one of the most important things to know when you go shopping at any time of year. Understanding what you want to invest in your wardrobe during the shopping trip, whether in person or online, will help you navigate the shopping experience. It will also remove any feelings of guilt that can come from an overspend when shopping (you’re not alone if you feel this!), and make it a more enjoyable experience.

Know your wardrobe requirements

Something I always start with when having a Personal Shopping experience with any of my clients is understanding what they already have in their wardrobes. Once we know what we already have, we can then get to see what we may want or need to add to them.

For example, if you have plenty of beautiful summer dresses that you want to use into the Autumn and Winter, you may need to invest in hosiery, long-sleeved tops to go under the dress, or even thermal vests that cannot be seen but keep you warm. Other pieces may be cardigans, jumpers, or long-sleeved dresses for the cooler months. Whereas if you are going into Spring/Summer you may need lighter options like a bolero, linens, and undergarments for comfort when not wearing tights.

Go through your wardrobe as the seasons begin to change, so you can clear out any unwearable garments for the coming season, and look at outfit opportunities within what you already have, and where the holes may lie.

Play with trends (that suit your style!)

I love new trends for each season, but sometimes we can get excited about a trend that truly won’t serve our personal style. We end up buying trendy garments, that we wear once and never again. Knowing the trends that you feel will work within your wardrobe and personal style will mean they can be worn over and over, and taken into future years – because they work for your style.

Invest in the seasonal essentials

Depending on the new season you are welcoming, there are some essentials you will need for your wardrobe. For Autumn, for example, there are some pieces you’ll want to add to your wardrobe if you haven’t already got them from the previous year.

Consider the place you live, and these essentials may change. For example, in the UK, while we may welcome Summer with open arms, this doesn’t mean our jumpers, tights, and boots need to go into storage! Whereas in Italy, we tend to only keep a few light layers in our wardrobe for the summer for cooler evenings.

Play with the seasonal colours

With a new season comes seasonal colours – Autumn with its falling leaves, Spring with new blossoms, Summer with strong colours all around, and Winter with it’s bright and fresh colourings. These colours can inspire your seasonal shopping. Pick and choose from your colour wheel to add colours from the season ahead to create new outfits with just a change of colour. For example, as we approach Autumn you may want to add reds or deep hues through your accessories. Find some beautiful boots that are in the season’s colours, that also keep you warmer on the cooler days.

If you are going shopping for the new season, I hope this guide has helped to prepare you. If you want someone there to support you and guide you through the shopping process, please get in touch.

PERSONAL SHOPPING TIPS: 5 MUST HAVE PIECES FOR FALL/WINTER

As we head into the fabulous Autumn/Winter 2021 season, you may be wondering what to bring into your wardrobe to make sure you feel warm yet fashionable. I’ve shared my top 5 autumn/winter 2021 (and any year!) essentials so you can make sure you feel ready to take on the new season with comfort and style!

Autumn has to be my favourite season, I am sure for many that may seem surprising as I often am seen wearing dresses and high heels! However, layering a favourite blazer or jacket over the top of my dresses means I can transform a look even more easily, and not overheat!

For many of us, a year of staying indoors as the leaves change means there are hopefully exciting events in the calendar for this autumn. So whether or not you’re heading to meetings, attending evening dos, or a brunch with friends, you’ll want to add these 5 must have pieces into your wardrobe to play with as the weather changes.

A cosy sweater

Now is the time to break out your favourite cosy sweater! A sustainable woollen jumper that is effortless can be paired with your favourite jeans or be tucked into a midi dress for a more formal look. For even more comfort, try an oversized v-neck jumper/cardigan that has large buttons and the current trend of the year – puff sleeves. I love wearing something like this with a leather pair of trousers, or even over one my favourite summer dresses to continue wearing them into the cooler months.

Bring a blazer

If you know me, you know a blazer is an item I believe should be in every person’s wardrobe, with at least one formal/plain option, and a more colourful or patterned option (here’s my full article on styling blazers). They are the perfect option for making an outfit transform quickly into a more formal look, while adding that extra layer for the cooler nights. For a classical look, you can’t go wrong with the fabulous range of colours of tweed blazers by MIA GIACCA while if you’re looking for a blazer that is more contemporary, then this blazer will work beautifully across colour palettes thanks to its neutral base.

A great pair of (combat) boots

Now, if you’re feeling personality-filled and want to show off your rocker-aesthetic then combat boots are a great addition for your shoe collection no matter the time of year, but particularly for autumn/winter! If you want to see a few fantastic ways to style your combat boots, and some inspiration on styles, then go to this article where I share 7 ways to style combat boots. However, if they’re just a little out of your comfort zone or your personal style, then there are other options!

For example, a beautiful knee length boot, like these, work fantastically at keeping your legs warm if you prefer not to wear tights with your skirts or dresses, while these simple ankle-high zip up boots are a classic go-to for wearing with your jeans, trousers, or skirts.

A wool blend or trench coat

Why is it that the camel or trench coats make an outfit look so…effortlessly chic? Well, if you’re wanting to exude French-classical style then you should add a trench coat to your wardrobe. It’s perfectly light for just adding a simple layer in case of rain, without feeling too warm, and now comes in a variety of colours, such as navy or mint green,  if the classic nude isn’t your style!

For a little more weight to your classic coat, a wool blend overcoat is great. I love the option of a wool coat being in a neutral tone, as this can mean you can play with a range of colours beneath, particularly when the coat is unbuttoned (or has no buttons!).  Whatever you choose, a coat will be a key part of your wardrobe for, when you care for it well, many years to come, so try it on if you feel comfortable to do so in a store, and invest in a piece that will feel joyous to wear.

Get your layering basics sorted!

Finally, my biggest tip for dressing for autumn/winter is having the basics ready to rock. We often forget how important these layers can be, particularly if we are outside for some time with friends and start to feel a chill of the British evenings. I highly recommend adding a few basics like a minimal turtleneck that you can wear under shirts, blouses, and even dresses; as well as comfortable tights in a black, and a skintone, so you can keep your knees warm!

For me, I’ll be bringing out my basics, popping on my favourite jewellery over that perfect turtleneck I’m wearing under my dress, and popping on some combat boots for a little rocker edge! What are your essentials for wearing during the cooler month?

If you feel a little overwhelmed by the changing seasons and would like some help in organising your wardrobe to reflect your style & needs, please get in touch as I now offer online personal shopping experiences for my national clients!

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: THE BEST SWIMWEAR FOR EVERY BODY SHAPE

For some of us, the warmer weather can be a difficult time to be inspired for our outfits. The addition of swimwear potentially causing difficulties with confidence, means that we can get overwhelmed.

In this blog, I share my essential swimwear guide for all body types.

With the summer bringing up the heat and holidays on the horizon, you may be wondering how to style your outfits to keep you cool and confident!

For some of us, the warmer weather can be a difficult time to be inspired for our outfits. The addition of swimwear potentially causing difficulties with confidence, means that we can get overwhelmed.

In this blog, I share my essential swimwear guide for all body types.

My biggest tip for you is to embrace this gorgeous weather and show off your style through your fashion. No matter the "fashion rules" we have been brought up on, the biggest thing to remember is that you deserve to feel your best. I hope this guide helps you pick a few ways to boost your confidence during this time of year and if you would like to have some extra help, please get in touch.

Top swimwear styles for pear shapes

A very good style to use is a bandeau bikini, which brings the eye up. You could also look for a frilled or mono-shoulder top. For the bottoms, you'll feel your best in a pair that sit higher on the hips as they elongate your gorgeous legs!

A one-piece that has a defined waist and higher legs, as well as those with little extras at the shoulders or one-shoulder, will help you feel your best.

Swimwear for hourglass body shapes

The best swimwear pieces are those that show off your waist. For a bikini, consider pieces that stop and start at your waist. You may want to find a set that has support on your top half, to ensure everything is held in place as your jump in to the sea!

For a swimsuit, look for pieces that have a definition at the waist or details that show off your smaller waist.

Best swimwear for inverted triangles

When looking for your bikini, you may want to mix and match. Look for bottoms that have prints, bolder colours, details, while minimizing details and volumes on the top. Classic triangle bikinis are good, as they are suited to your body shape.

Whether in a bikini style or a one-piece, you may want to look for styles with halter and square necks, you'll want to avoid floral patterns.

Swimwear for oval shapes

For ovals you can show off your gorgeous legs and arms. I recommend playing with patterns such as florals when it comes to your swimwear. I also find this denim-look swimming costume, which works as a sort of camouflage, with the neckline and back drop are curvilinear and opened, complementing curves and optically elongating the bust.

Try a tankini, that has details on the shoulders or around the neckline, will be a great option to draw the eyes to your sunkissed face.

Best swimwear for rectangles

When looking for your two pieces for the beach, you may want to look for trikini. When it comes to general patterns, look for swimsuits with geometric patterns to complement your shape.

On a one-piece, a central panel in a darker shade or with panelling throughout the piece, as this gives the illusion of a slimmer shape, or find a suit that has a square neckline. As a final tip, it's best to avoid high-waisted bikini bottoms for you.

Will you be investing in a new bikini or swimsuit this year? If the thought of getting new summer outfits for your wardrobe is a daunting task, I’d love to help.

PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: SUMMER OUTFIT INSPIRATION 2023

The sun is out and whether you’re embracing the heat and wanting to relish in it, or you’re feeling overwhelmed by what to wear without your jumpers of the Autumn/Winter, it can be daunting to know what to wear during warmer months. If you’re looking for some summer outfit inspiration you are in the right place! In this blog, I am going to share 5 of my favourite summer outfit ideas for you to play with during the warmer months.

Midi skirt and a tee

If you know me, you will know that I love a graphic tee and a midi skirt combination! Not only is it great for feeling summery and free, but it also works across all different occasions. Whether I am heading out to work meetings, or having brunch with friends, I feel like my outfit is appropriate, just with a change up of accessories.

When you get into the warmer months, you want to feel cool and comfortable. The great thing about this outfit is that you can quickly and easily put it together when you are in a rush, if it suits your personal style.

You can reflect your style in the graphic tee you choose – whether it’s a glittery quote, a classic rock tee, or a v-neck classic white tee – it works across the different personality types. You can then also do the same with the colours or styles of your midi skirt. Whether it’s a pleated midi length colourful skirt, or a leather look midi skirt that brings out the rock chick in you, there are plenty of options for this outfit!

If you are heading out and there may be a chance of cooler weather, you can pop on a blazer or a leather jacket for that added warmth.

I personally love to elevate this look for meetings with heeled sandals, or for more casual events I wear platform trainers or slide on sandals, depending on the weather forecast!

Linen two-piece set

For a beautifully chic yet cool look, linen is the perfect way to go. This works well for people who are more of a Classic or a Creative personality type. If you are a Classic, you can make a clean, crisp yet comfortable look with a white or neutrally toned two-piece set. Whereas, if you are a creative, you can discover sets with patterns or colours that reflect your personality.

With linen looks they can sometimes feel a little more casual, so you’ll want to embrace the flowy nature of the fabric. However, fashion designers have worked to take away the usually flowy nature with more figure hugging options, to help bring you in at the waist. You also don’t have to reside with wide-legged trousers and an oversized blouse, consider finding a skirt and cropped top option for a unique look.

Cropped jeans and a blouse

Cropped jeans are a must try style as they work beautifully for both petite and standard height people with a range of body types (depending on the cut). When you pair them casually with a blouse the look is very chic and laid back. If you want to go for Classic styling, wear a fully monochromatic look of white cropped jeans, a white blouse, white heeled sandals and a crossover body bag in white with hints of gold to elevate the look. Whereas, for a romantic look, bring some of your favourite ruffles or bows with your blouse – also a great option if you are more pear shaped to balance out your shoulders!

For more inspiration on how to style up your cropped jeans, visit this blog!

Midi dress with sandals

If you love to dress up and dress down a look in a flash, without having to worry about what works with what, a midi dress is a great option to add to your wardrobe. Thanks to the length, it is suitable for both professional and relaxed events. Paired with sandals you can style up or down the look with just the change of heel! Flat sandals, with a sun hat and your midi dress are a great option for late afternoon drinks, whereas heeled sandals with a laptop bag and perhaps even a blazer works well for meetings during the day.

Midi dresses come in all shapes, styles and patterns so you’ll want to check out which style of dress may work best for your body shape. For pear shapes, a dress that comes in at the waist, with structured or detailed shoulders are a good option for you. For ovals, you will want to have a more flowy option around the waist and have perhaps a v-neck or wrap dress style. If you are a rectangle, you’ll want to find a shift dress shape. For inverted triangles look for a midi dress, that has minimal details at the top while adding volume at the bottom to create balance.

Wear the shorts!

Finally, my summer go-to for us is to wear the shorts. Many clients I work with feel overwhelming fear of wearing shorts (myself included!) but this is because we hadn’t found our perfect style or length.

If you have thighs that touch – which is many people by the way – then you’ll want to invest in shorts that come down long enough to prevent any discomfort. There are plenty of excellent styles of shorts that you can try out in a variety of fabrics that work for the summer weather helping you feel cool and comfortable, as well as confident.

A few of my favourite types of shorts, depending on your body shape, are:

Rectangular: Straight cut or Mom shorts. Finding a pair of mid to short shorts work perfectly for you, in a straight cut. This is because they ensure your shorts aren’t too tight, but continue to show off your leaner legs. Whereas a Mom cut will add definition to your hips where you may want to add a little volume to create an hourglass effect. If you have slightly shorter legs, this will also help to elongate them. Match with a pair of heels or platforms to lengthen, or just go all-out summertime and pair with your favourite sandals and a loose tee.

Hourglass: High rise shorts. Because you go in at the waist, you want to show this off. Look for high or mid rise shorts that cover your thighs about half way between your pelvis and your knee for an elegant option. Look for trouser-style fabric shorts, to keep the look feeling professional, and match with a blouse in a monochrome style for a chic option.

Apple shapes: Short shorts to show off those legs! When you are an apple shape, you tend to have longer and leaner legs. This means you can go for those shorter options to help show off the length of your legs. Look for a pair with an elasticated waistband too, to make you feel more comfortable. Match with a flowy top tucked in loosely for a casual option.

Pear shapes: High waisted looser shorts with minimal detailing. You may want to look for shorts without pockets, and definitely without pleats. Feel confident and comfortable with shorts that are tailored to feel slightly “wider”. Paperbag style shorts are great for pear shapes, as they bring your eyes up to your small waist. Look for a pair that come with or allow for a belt to add that extra oomph to your waist and make sure the fabric is soft, rather than stiff. Elongate your legs with a pair of neutral stilettos, and add definition to your shoulders with a blouse that has volume at the top.

Summer shouldn’t be a time of year where you are feeling daunted by the prospect of what to wear. Your clothes should be an extension of your personality and help you feel your best no matter what the occasion! If you are feeling conscious that your wardrobe isn’t reflecting your personality, or you want support from someone who can help you discover outfits that help you shine with confidence I’d love to help.

PERSONAL SHOPPING TIPS: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A PERSONAL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

Let’s be honest, shopping for clothes can either make or break our day. When you have a plan, find what you need, the temperature is just right, and you feel confident within the pieces you have selected, a clothes shopping experience can be amazing. If you are considering having an expert by your side, but you’re unsure on what a personal shopping experience will include, then we share what you can expect from both a face to face personal shopping experience, as well as an online experience.

Let’s be honest, shopping for clothes can either make or break our day. When you have a plan, find what you need, the temperature is just right, and you feel confident within the pieces you have selected, a clothes shopping experience can be amazing.

For many of my clients, they have less of a fabulous result when they go shopping. They don’t have time for it so rush through the shopping, ending up with clothes they don’t love, don’t work with their current wardrobe, and ultimately waste money on garments they won’t wear.

For some, the feeling of overwhelm from the multitude of options can consume them. They can either rush around the stores and feel there’s “nothing for them”, or they spend hours trying to find the right pieces, but just don’t know where to go.

Finally, the most often feeling is that they just don’t know what will suit them from the shops, and feel they don’t know what to buy.

A personal shopping experience brings a specialist by your side to help you transform these downward spirals when shopping, and make them enjoyable and cost effective. Gone will be the countless pieces in your wardrobe that you never wear, but don’t have time to return!

That’s why we love helping people who feel this way with our online or face to face shopping experiences.

When you come to One of a Style for a personal shopping experience, what can you expect? Great question, here’s what we do here.

Personal Shopping – what you can expect from face to face shopping experiences

A personal shopping experience is one that we go through together, in person. The experience gives you the opportunity to have a full day or half day with one of our style experts to discover the shops, styles, and pieces that work for you.

It starts with a consultation, we get together online or in person, to find out what your wardrobe delivers, and what you may need to complement the outfits you already have and love.

Our experts will create a list of inspirational styles and will browse brands and collections beforehand, so when we get together for the shopping experience, we have clear ideas of what you need and what to look for.

We use our insights, knowledge, and experience to recommend stores that align with your personal style, your wardrobe requirements, and your shape. Because we already understand and know what is on offer across a variety of stores and budgets, we don’t have to try out loads of options, we have them in place already, and can take you to them for a new and welcome experience.

We may guide you to try a few new things, so you can step out of your comfort zone, while remaining true to your personality. We will also enable you to try on pieces, play with outfits, and have a style expert to hand to give you feedback on looks as well as how to style those garments for future looks.

You will walk away knowing that the pieces you have purchased will not only feel and look great, but they will work for you within the wardrobe you already have.

A personal shopping experience will feel like you have an expert there to hold your hand, give you new discoveries, and make shopping a more pleasurable experience. You will also be given advice and feedback for future shopping when you go out on your own, so you won’t fall back into the overwhelming and costly experience it may have been before.

Online Personal Shopping – What to Expect from an online shopping experience with One of a Style

You may think that online personal shopping would mean you miss out on that personal aspect, but we make sure that our online and face to face experiences feel as personal and engaged as one another. There are some differences, of course, as we are not there with you in person during the experience, but we are able to give a guiding hand throughout your experience.

With our Curated Online Shopping Experience, you will still get a real, accountable stylist (and no AI) working for you! We are here to make sure your shopping experience will be enjoyable, so having someone there to help you makes it all the more easier.

After an initial briefing call to discuss your goal, budget and needs, we create a bespoke lookbook just for you!

You will see different outfit ideas with links to the places to buy those exact items, so you can quickly and easily get what you see and like, with an approachable example of how to style them. No longer will an online shopping experience of urgency for one garment mean it only works for one event or outfit!

If you perhaps don’t love an exact piece, we have multiple options within your lookbook to try out, such as different colours, and patterns that still align with your outfit preferences and personal style, based on the briefing we have together.

You can go out, with the informed decisions and items that work for you thanks to these elements, and to add on that personal experience, we can organise a Zoom Fit Call, to show off your pieces once you get them, and see how they fall, and get an expert insight into the looks.

While the one-off experience can be so beneficial for you moving forwards, we understand that the trends that come into play, and the seasons come around, which may mean you need further support. This is why we offer our curated online shopping sessions in a one-off, bi-annual, or quarterly option.

Shopping should ultimately be a joyful, useful experience that makes your wardrobe more fun and useable. If shopping for clothes feels like an overwhelming experience for you, and holds you back from enjoying your wardrobe, we can help.

Whether you choose to have someone by your side in person, or via an online experience, each option provides a personal and bespoke solution to your clothes shopping experiences.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS - HOW TO DRESS FOR WORK IN 2023

I have had a lot of conversations with female clients who work in the city, that the way they are dressing for work has drastically changed since the pandemic. Most people now work on a hybrid format, with a mix of working from home and coming into the office.

They struggle to understand what to wear now, due to the dress code seemingly changing to a more relaxed version of what they were used to. The office wear of 2023 and beyond, seems to be incorporating more comfortable attire, and they feel that they no longer know what is suitable for the office.

As a personal stylist, I work with my clients to help them learn the ways to dress that they feel confident in, while remaining suitable for their environments. So, if you are feeling that your work wardrobe is no longer serving you, and you’re looking for ways to dress for this new hybrid way of working, then here are my top three tips for what to wear at work.

Tip Number 1 – Working from Home

Working from home looks tend to go more on the comfort and relaxed side, particularly on the bottom half of your outfit. You will tend to be able to walk around with less of an “office look”, but still need to look professional while jumping on and off of meetings. Your top half does still need to be more tidy and professional.

My top tips for working from home outfits:

  • Add a cosy yet good quality jumper, so you can remain warm but happily jump on a virtual meeting without having to change.

  • Wearing a colour from your colour palette will make a big difference, particularly when on camera, too.  Make sure it doesn’t blend into the background, so you don’t disappear!

  • Add accessories such as earrings or headbands to add a little detail to your look, and finish off the professional style.

  • For your bottoms, you may want to wear something a little more comfortable, such as leggings or relaxed trousers.

Tip Number 2 – Working from a Corporate Office

If you need to have a more corporate look, or have a strict dress code because you are a lawyer or you are meeting clients, a suit with a little personality is an easy go-to for this.

Top Tips for adding personality to a suit:

  • While suits are excellent for corporate styling, they can feel a little restrictive. Depending on your position and company, you can add a dash of personality in a few ways:

  • Wear a colourful heel or bag to your look to make your suit pop.

  • Pop on a brooch to your lapel to liven up your suit jacket.

  • Look for a different colour for your suit. Navy or black are no loner the only options! A deep grey, lilac, brighter blue, or even look for yellows, pinks, or greens, depending on your colours, to really jazz up your suit options.

  • Change up the suit by wearing a different jacket with your black or navy bottoms, and vice versa.

Tip Number 3 – Working in the New Office

The case seems to be that most offices have now relaxed their dress codes with the changing times. This means you can have smart-casual looks, which may feel a little difficult for those who have always worn a suit to work, and now have more options!

A few ways to make a smart-casual office look:

  • Wear your suit jacket with a pair of smart jeans. A deep wash is often best for this as it remains professional, but brings that touch of a more relaxed look to the outfit.

  • Wear a suit with a smart t-shirt, in place of a blouse or shirt. There are lots of options for smart, high quality cotton t-shirts, that have a bit of personality, without having a slogan that may feel too casual!

  • Pop on your favourite trousers or chinos, and add a comfortable high quality jumper or long sleeved cotton tee. The smarter bottom half of your look will elevate the comfort of your top half.

  • Try out an alternative shoe, such as a brogue or a platform. Heels are no longer a requirement for the office, so play with more relaxed styles. For more ideas on shoes that work for the office that aren’t heels, I have shared a few of my favourites in this article.

  • Play with colours that bring a touch of personality to your outfit, allowing you step out of the traditional black or navy palette.

  • When it comes to working in a new way, it can feel difficult to plan your looks when you go to the office and when you stay at home. I hope some of these ideas have helped you plan your outfits for this new way to dress.

If you are a professional and you’re feeling unsure on how to dress for your new working style, I can help you make it a pleasure to dress for your work life.

PERSONAL SHOPPER ADVICE: WHAT'S NEW THIS SEASON?

With February fast-approaching, this means Fashion Week is coming to London from the 17th – 21st February to showcase the Spring/Summer trends to look forward to.

With the catwalks filled with warm-weather looks, you may be wondering what new items may work in your current wardrobe that you may want to invest in.

While I work around the ethos of a sustainable and capsule-like wardrobe, there are sometimes seasonal pieces that certainly feel right to add to my wardrobe. As long as they work alongside at least 3 of my current outfits, and make me feel great (and will last!) then they are worth purchasing.

Being a considered shopper makes each season more exciting as you take a moment to consider if the pieces you quickly react to will have a long-term effect. This is one thing to bring into your mindset each time you go shopping – give yourself the time to question if you have pieces that work with that garment, or if you love it enough to make some!

With this in your mind, let’s share a few of the new season favourites I have found.

This is one thing to bring into your mindset each time you go shopping – give yourself the time to question if you have pieces that work with that garment, or if you love it enough to make some!

With this in your mind, let’s share a few of the new season favourites I have found.

Baggy jeans

I shared a guide to the top jeans to suit your body shape (which you can download here) last year, and baggy jeans are one of the most approachable pieces. They are often comfortable, and work beautifully on a range of body types.

If you are an hourglass or a triangle you will want to make sure you have a waist height that comes in at your natural waist. Tuck in your shirt, blouse or light jumper, and then add a belt to really level up your shape!

For an inverted triangle shape, a pair of wide-legged jeans that fall more on the flared side are a great option for you. Pop on a pair of heels to lengthen your legs and a form-fitting top to finish off the look.

Or try a pair that have a little bit of volume or pockets to the front will make a definition to your hips. And a square neck top, a crossover body bag and a pair of platform sneakers to make this cool-girl look complete.

Oversized Blazers

My favourite piece to have in any woman’s wardrobe – the blazer! This season it is coming in an oversized form, which can be comforting yet sometimes tricky to wear depending on your personal style and body shape.

Blazers can upgrade any look, and add that extra layer of warmth that can be so needed in the spring in London. With an oversized blazer you have more freedom for the layers underneath, and you can also play with the shapes and fits of the clothes you choose.

For example an oversized blazer that is just shorter than your skirt, with tights, boots and a comfy jumper is a great brunch or date night look. While the same blazer can be worn with a detailed blouse, your favourite wide-legged trousers and your heels for a day of meetings.

For a few ways to play with blazers and how to style them, click here.

Going Sheer

Now, bear with me here, but the sheer trend that has been shown across countless catwalks can be a great additional layer to add warmth, intrigue, or style to your outfit. While the catwalk stylings feel less approachable (but if you love it, go for it!) adding a covered layer beneath the sheer garment is a great way to make this trend-setting garment more likely to work in your wardrobe.

If you want to add colour to a look, for example, but you want to keep your neutral tones across your look, then adding a sheer long sleeved top over your vest will perk up the look in a flash.

For the sheer skirts, you can add these over another skirt of a similar length, or add definition to your waist by adding the skirt over a full length dress.

Sheer pieces are also great for adding texture, definition, and flair to your outfit. If you are cautious of going fully sheer, you can find several fashion houses that have added a sheer element to a piece such as the bottom of a midi skirt or in panels to just show a little skin.

So, what do you think of these three spring/summer seasonal trends? Will you be trying a few of them in your wardrobe? If you feel a little overwhelmed by all the changing trends, and don’t know where to invest and where to walk away, I offer a Personal Shopping experience, so you and I can go together to view and select the best items to match your style, needs, and body shape.

PERSONAL STYLING TIPS: STYLISH KNITWEAR YOU MUST TRY THIS WINTER

Gone are the days when Autumn/Winter means bulky, unfashionable garments that you have to pile on to keep warm. Fashionable knitwear is obtainable now for our wardrobes, and there are some fantastic options available depending on your personal style preferences. Here are my top picks for your winter knitwear selection, based on your style personality.

Gone are the days when Autumn/Winter means bulky, unfashionable garments that you have to pile on to keep warm. Fashionable knitwear is obtainable now for our wardrobes, and there are some fantastic options available depending on your personal style preferences.

If you haven’t yet discovered your own personal style, you can check out my previous blog which shares a whistlestop tour of the different types.

Knitwear for Natural Style personalities

Comfortable, neutral tones, that are easy to care for and throw on are your go-to preferences. A beige, funnel neck jumper from Sweaty Betty is an easy to put on item. Wear with a pair of comfy trousers, or leggings, with your favourite sneakers or boots and you’re ready to go.

A slightly more elegant option for a special occasion, could be this knotted round neck jumper. Pair with a pair of straight leg jeans, or pleather leggings and a pair of wedges.

For an everyday item, this Uniqlo crew neck sweater is an every day classic you can include in your wardrobe.

For a full outfit that is warm and cosy, you can look for a knitted dress in your go-to neutral tones. This FCUK high neck midi dress is super easy to throw on, and can work with leather knee-high boots, sneakers, or even heels (which I know you only wear on very very special occasions!). If you have a larger bust, a roll neck may not be suited to your body shape, so look for a wrap dress that feels comfortable and cosy.

Knitwear for Classic Style Personalities

As a classic style, you want to feel elegant, pulled together, and more formal. With knitwear this can be tricky, as often they come in a bulkier form. So, you need to look for garments made with more elegant fabrics such as cashmere, velvet, or high quality wool.

Much like naturals, you want to have a more neutral wardrobe, but you do use some colour such as navy, peach, or pinks, depending on your skintone.

This off the shoulder, cashmere piece works elegantly with a midi skirt, pencil skirt, flares, or even wide legged trousers. The styling of the neckline works beautifully on triangle shapes so as to bring some broadness to the shoulders. It would work beautifully with a pair of bootcut jeans for a casual look, or with a pair of tailored trousers and court shoes. While this pearl-embellished neckline knit jumper has an elegant, yet comfortable feel.

This belted cable knit cardigan is also a good piece for every day, while remaining elegant enough to feel more dressed up than a casual sweater. Pair it with a pair of camel wide legged trousers and neutral heels for an every day go-to look, or with a silk midi skirt and knee high boots.

This 2 in 1 midi dress is great for any season, as it pairs a turtle neck jumper with a midi dress that has an approachable slit in the side. With a pair of leather boots, or heels this will be a complete look that you can quickly put together, while remaining elegant.

While this tied waist knitted skirt in cream, will pair elegantly with a blouse and heels, or a turtle neck and boots for the winter.

Knitwear for Romantic Style Personalities

You love to get dressed up when you are a Romantic style personality! Knitwear may feel unapproachable for you. However, looking for knits that have extra pieces such as pearls, fringing, or patterns will help you stay warm and confident!

This cashmere cardigan with sequins is perfect for the festive season! Adding some sparkle, shine, and warmth makes this cardigan a great option for Christmas festivities. While it is in a deeper colour, the charcoal can work well with a bright dress or skirt underneath to bring some colour to the look.

This pink, ribbed, button knit dress is another excellent option for colour pop and warmth. The slightly puffed sleeves will be an added bonus for the look, and pairs well with a pair of boots, a crossover body bag, and your favourite coat.

For a sexier look, this bodysuit is, in fact, a knitted garment so adds that extra warmth you need in winter, without giving up on the body shape you’re looking to show off! Great for hourglass, pear, or inverted triangles, the corset shape pulls you in at the waist and can work well with a variety of bottoms. Whether it’s a midi or mini skirt, a pair of high rise jeans, or a pair of tailored trousers, this can work well across the board of occasions. Pop on your favourite blazer, or a sequinned jacket, and you’re ready for a night on the town!

Knitwear for Creative & Dramatic Style Personalities

Creative and Dramatic style personalities can feel difficult to differentiate, but it is in fact all about how you make the look. Creatives and Dramatics love bold, statements with their looks but Dramatic personalities tend to mix up patterns and shapes, adding details and accessories to create a statement look, while creatives prefer to create looks that follow a little more structure.

These style personalities loves picking from current and past trends. Consider finding your knitwear from high street, luxury, and vintage stores to satisfy your creative needs.

This quirky cloud patterned jumper brings a little artistic flair to your look. With a pair of vintage flares, sneakers, and trench coat, you’ll feel right at home in this piece.

This jacquard knit mock-knit short sleeved top in gorgeous bright yellow and orange, or purple and lilac, is spun from a featherweight Italian yarn that is wrinkle-resistant. Pop on a knitted skirt, or over a pair of mom jeans, with a pair of combat boots and it’s a great everyday look for a dramatic personality. The way this has been styled below is a perfect example of how a dramatic would create a look – mixing two diverse patterns together in one look.

This quirky wool blend jumper by Ralph Lauren is just the ticket to add that touch of drama to any look. With the unique polo bear to the front, it can work over a shirt, blouse, or maxi dress depending on your needs for the day! Pop on a pair of colourful combat boots, a beret, and your favourite jewellery and you’re ready to rock.

To fulfil your creativity for an evening look that combines edgy with sexy, this cut out top in charcoal works perfectly with a silk midi skirt, stilettos, and statement jewellery. This feather trimmed cable knit jumper is another fantastic option that combines some edgy styling, with a unique shape. Available in emerald or pink, it can work for a variety of skintones. You could bring this look together with a pair of leather trousers, or over a summer dress to enable you to continue to use your summer looks throughout the colder months.

As you can see, knitwear is not drab! When you know the styling that works for you, you can easily find and create looks that bring confidence to your day. If you know you need a style refresh, but can’t easily fit it into your schedule, my personal style masterclass is the perfect first step.

In less than three hours, I’ll help you understand what shapes, colours and cuts work best for you, and share advice and inspiration on how to shop and dress with confidence. Click here to find out more, or call me to discuss the best personal styling experiences for your needs.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: PARTYWEAR OUTFIT IDEAS FOR CHRISTMAS

The party season is upon us, and I am sure many of us are aching to get together this Christmas. Whether it’s a corporate party or a celebration with friends, we want to feel festive and appropriately dressed.

With this article I will be sharing a few of my favourite party outfit ideas for you this season, based on the party you are heading to!

Colour Trends to inspire you for your winter party

Looking at some of the colours from the Autumn/Winter 2022 catwalks, there are some beautiful colours to inspire us for our party outfits.

The bright colour trends of Autumn included zesty lime, lilac, burnt orange and cobalt blue, which are wonderfully bright and enticing colours for this season.

A few deeper colours could be chosen for the evening which include burgundy, emerald, or brown which can feel more approachable versus the brighter colours, if the event is more professional.

Outfit ideas for the work party

When it comes to the office work party, you want to remain professional, yet bring in the festive feeling. Depending on the venue, you can dress up a little more formally, should the dress code require it. The first tip for dressing for any event, in particular work events, is checking out the venue and if there is a dress code.

You can’t go wrong with a dress at these parties. I do tend to recommend a longer hemline, from midi to maxi length can be the best option. However, if you do work in a younger more laid-back profession, you could opt for a shorter hemline, keeping yourself warmer with a bolero, or blazer.

A velvet wrap dress can be a good choice, this fabric is much warmer than others, and can feel quite luxurious too. With the wrap shape, this can work well on most body shapes as it pulls you in at the waist. Pop on a layered necklace for that little bit of sparkle, and a pair of heels for the finishing touch.

Another option, if you prefer to cover your legs, is a velvet jumpsuit, with a defined waist. Jumpsuits can be a little more tricky to wear as our heights are so different, so make sure to find one that feels comfortable and stops in the right areas for the best waist definition. A pair of strappy heels, long earrings and a clutch will finish the outfit with a little sparkle for your party.

If you prefer a two piece, then a satin midi skirt paired with a roll neck or a mesh top with a fun sleeve can be an approachable 2 piece look. However, you could go all out and swap the skirt for a pair of sequinned trousers, or even a sequinned suit with your roll neck underneath!

The great thing about sequins is that they can sparkle in the party lights, and when in a more professional shape such as wide leg trousers, they can be a little less garish.

Festive looks for your party with friends

A party with friends means that you could be a little more risqué with your look. A shorter hemline, more sparkles, and a little more personality can shine through.

One option that is a great start to a fun, festive night with your friends is a sequinned dress that has all of the party in the back! With a longer hemline you can play with the backless option, adding a bit of sexiness to the look. Thanks to the high neckline I wouldn’t recommend a necklace, instead, put your hair up and wear a pair of hoops or longer earrings. Pair with some comfortable block heels if you’re going partying into the night, and you’re all set.

For some fun, edgy inspiration, why not try a sequin covered top with an almost fringe-like quality? Pair with your favourite leather trousers, or even a pair of gold foil trousers to keep that sparkle throughout the entire outfit! Pop on a pair of heeled square toed boots which are all the rage right now, and party the night away. If you choose an all-black look, you could add a pop of colour with the shoes, such as a pair of pink heels, or even pink heeled boots!

So, will you be heading to a party this Christmas? I hope some of these ideas have inspired you to get an outfit together that you’ll love to party in, no matter the occasion.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: TOP COLOUR TRENDS FOR AUTUMN 2022 (and how to style them)

As the seasons change, the catwalks and shops will show off the latest trends. From colours to shapes & styles, you may want to invest in a few current pieces to update your wardrobe.

What are the top colours to add to your wardrobe for your season and how can you style them?

Here are my favourite colours for Autumn 2022, and how you can make them work in your wardrobe, so you can invest wisely!

Zesty Lime – perfect for Springs

A bright and fun colour to add to your wardrobe that works perfectly for springs this season. Plus, it will add a dash of brightness to any look.

It can feel like a daunting colour, due to its brightness, but when you use it appropriately, it can truly make you shine!

I love that such a bright colour is coming into fashion for an often darker season, so using it to brighten your wardrobe as you add more layers, and welcome darker mornings and evenings, can bring a spring to your step!

How to try lime green this Autumn

If you want to add a dash of lime green to your outfits, you can do this with your accessories such as your handbag or even your shoes. These accessories can last a long time, so investing in the pieces you want to wear throughout the years to come will mean you can play up your outfits no matter the season.

Another option, particularly for Autumn as it gets colder, is with your layers. A unique cashmere jumper, or even a blazer can be a good option for the colder days, and in lime green you’re sure to make a statement and a big smile to your face.

Lilac – perfect for Summers

Lilac is a strong contender for my favourite colour for Autumn 2022. This almost pastel colour is a feminine and easy starting colour to add to your wardrobe as it's not too obtrusive. As it is quite feminine, it may feel like a tricky colour if you are a more abstract or edgy dresser, but you can make it work for you, if you use the right materials like leather or strong cable knits.

How to wear lilac this autumn

To fully embrace the femininity of this colour, you can look at investing in a lilac silk midi skirt (pair with tights and knee high boots for this time of year to remain warm, and it will last all the way to the summer as you change up your accessories and shoes!). You could also invest in frilled, long-sleeved blouse in lilac to pair with wide-legged trousers, or even with your lilac skirt for a monochromatic look.

For a more edgy look, why not try a lilac leather jacket and pair with combat boots, or invest in a leather trench coat in this on-trend colour.

 Burnt orange – for Autumns

Burnt orange is a truly Autumnal colour, and I love it! It can be a rich addition to your wardrobe no matter the time of year, but during this season it can be reflective of the gorgeous changing leaves around us. I'm delighted it's hitting the catwalks for 2022/23.

Whether it’s in your eyeshadow, or in your clothes, this rich colour is an elegant colour that can work from day to night.

How to style your burnt orange colours this Autumn

As it is such a warm, rich, and intense colour, you may want to go all out and wear it as your entire outfit such as with your dress paired with gold jewellery and deep rich accessories. If this feels like too much, dip your toes into the burnt orange colour trend with your heels – such as these almost metallic heels, or these burnt orange ankle boots.

You can also never go wrong with a handbag, so why not simply change up your outfits and add this on-trend colour to your looks through an elegant, burnt orange handbag?

Cobalt blue – for winters

For a cooler tone that works on your skin, while remaining bright and colourful for the seasons to change, cobalt blue is the perfect pick for Winters this season.

Cobalt blue should be a go-to colour in your wardrobe as a winter, so I was excited to see this colour across all of the Autumn/Winter 2022 fashion shoes.

How to wear cobalt blue this Autumn

You can bring this beautiful, bright yet deep blue into your wardrobe in a unique way with a suit! Perfect for those of you who prefer a more androgenous look, that can pair with different blouses, and be changed up based on the top or bottom.

For a warm and easy to throw on option, this long-sleeved mock-turtleneck belted jumper can be worn at any time of day. While these slide-on heels with a black heel have a dash of cobalt blue that can just add this pop of on-trend colour to your outfit.

These are just four of my favourites, on-trend colours for Autumn 2022, and I hope you’re feeling inspired to try out these colours in your wardrobe too!

If you'd love someone by your side to help you find the perfect colours, new trends, and outfits to suit your personality, body shape, and colouring, please get in touch.

PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: AUTUMN OUTFIT INSPIRATION FOR 2022

Autumn is here and what comes with it new outfit options! My clients can find this time of year difficult to dress for as it’s not cold enough for a full winter outfit, whereas the summer clothes feel too light. Whether it’s layering or picking the right shoes for the weather and how to style them, I share my top tips for autumn outfits just for you.

Top colours for Autumn 2022

Autumn 2022 has a great selection of colours to choose from, but which ones work best for you? As you may know, I help people discover their best colours by using the seasonal colour analysis. You can find out more about how to know yours, here. These are my picks for each of the seasons:

Spring: Zesty lime - a bright and fun colour to add to your wardrobe.

Summer: Lilac is a strong contender for my favourite colour for Autumn 2022.

Autumn: Burnt orange is a truly Autumnal colour and can be a rich addition to your wardrobe.

Winter: Pink & cobalt blue for a cooler tone that works on your skin, while remaining bright and colourful for the seasons to change.

How to wear your Autumn trending colours

There are plenty of different ways to add colour to your outfit, from a little touch to an all out full monochrome look.

A perfect start can be a woolly hat, a leather jacket, or a pair of shoes.

The next step can be a pair of leather wide-leg trousers (very on-trend right now, and works great for most body shapes), or even a blazer.

For an all-out commitment to your colour selection, or perfect for abstract personality types, is to wear a full outfit in your colours. Whether it's a suit, or even a maxi dress, with a mesh top underneath to keep yourself warm in the cooler weather, with a handbag and jacket.

If colours feel a little daunting to add to your outfits, I'd love to help.

Top trends for Autumn

Outfits for this time of year include great layering and light, yet warm options.

Some of the top trends coming into the season include "punk prep" - think leather, pleated midi skirts, and tailored blazers. Maxi dresses and full-length hem lines are also back in fashion, and great with a pair of over heeled boots.

One great trend coming into fashion for the season are tailored waistcoats. These are great for the androgenous look for the office, or with a pair of wide-leg jeans over a more casual long-sleeved top for a more casual look.

Statement leather is also a strong option for the 2022 season, and you can't go wrong with a leather jacket at any time of year. You could also try any of the leather trousers coming onto the shelves, or for a more approachable statement leather piece, think of a leather bag in the colour of your season.

Top 3 Shoes & Outfit Inspiration for Autumn

Now we’ve talked all about the colours and outfits on offer for Autumn 2022, we can jump to the shoes! Shoes can oftentimes be the most difficult part of the outfit to pair together. There are some unique and fun ways to play with the shoes and your outfit for this time of year.

Combat Boots: Best with cropped loose-fitted jeans, and shorter skirts

Combat boots continue to stay on trend, year on year, and they're a great piece to bring into your Autumnal wardrobe. As they come up to your ankle bone, they do need a little consideration when being styled.

One casual option can be matching them with looser-fitted jeans that are cropped or rolled up to show off up to about an inch above the top of the boot. Check out my blog for 7 ways to style your cropped jeans, here.

You can also wear them with a midi or mini skirt with tights, and as the days get cooler, even with a pair of thick socks peeking out of the top of the boot too.

Knee-high boots: Match with dresses, skinny jeans, and maxi skirts

There's something so elegant about a pair of knee-high leather or suede boots with a small platform heel!

While you can go quite nineties with the styles on offer, it's best to pick leather or suede if you prefer a more professional look.

Matching your boots with a maxi skirt will keep you warm without having to fight with tights while wearing a dress with a slit can mean you can show off your boots without getting too cold.

Another way to wear and show off your boots is by wearing them over your skinny jeans, or with a mini skirt, depending on the event.

There are some great options available for those of us with larger calves, and do opt for a boot with a zip so you can more easily put your boots on.

Trainers: Casual chic looks with flares and wide-legged trousers

Workwear no longer has to include stilettos (as I shared in this blog) and this means you actually can wear trainers to work! There are some great options nowadays for us to pick up a pair of comfy yet professional trainers that work for all occasions.

Match your trainers with a pair of trending flares, or if you want to mix and match professional with sport-luxe, why not try with your trouser suit?  I would recommend looking for a pair of high quality trainers in a neutral tone, or go quirky with one of the colourful suede options now available to add a touch of personality at your feet.

Seasons change, and maximising your outfits and wardrobe items you already have is so important. If you’re finding it difficult to discover the seasonal outfits that work for you and bring you confidence, I can help with my Style Masterclass, or Personal Shopping experiences.

In this article I’ll share with you my top tips to finding the right handbags to suit your needs, personal style, and lifestyle.

As accessories go, you can’t get more diverse than the handbag. From clutches to briefcases, backpacks to crossover body bags, you can discover a huge array of styles, colours, patterns, and designs to add to your outfit. But how can you find the perfect handbag for your style?

In this article I’ll share with you my top tips to finding the right handbags to suit your needs, personal style, and lifestyle.

Matching your handbag to your lifestyle

The first important part about shopping for your perfect handbag is to match it to your lifestyle, and how differently the handbag will support your needs throughout the day, week, or month.

Let’s think about being a working mother – your working bag will require space for your laptop, folders, documents and needs to look professional; while when you are picking up the kids, or having family-time over the weekend, your bag needs to hold snacks, drinks, nappies, games and a lot more – without damaging your shoulders!

I understand that lifestyles are hugely varied, but in this article I will share insights from a variety of clients I have worked with in the past, and the handbags I recommended to them based on their needs. You can mix and match the ideas below based on how your lifestyle looks.

Handbags for work

If you are a professional working person, and tend to commute to the office, your bag needs to reflect your needs. I like to recommend to the clients I work with who have to go to work, with commuting to and from the office being a big part of their lives, a large enough shoulder bag to carry their essentials.

The Briefcase

While you can find a classic black leather briefcase style bag with plenty of zip up space for your purse, make-up when you need to do touch ups, as well as large enough for your laptop, stationery, and so on. In the mid-range price, this Aspen Leather Shoulder Workbag by Osprey is perfect, or a designer option could be this Mulberry City briefcase (in black or charcoal).

But if you want to add a little flair to your outfit for work, you can do this through a colourful and enticing briefcase – with all the bells and whistles you need, but a touch of fun. This vegan leather Luca Laptop Bag by Flanella Smith is available in lemon yellow, sage green or navy and is a fab way to bring that colour pop to your classic corporate outfit.

Day bags

If you prefer something a little more casual that will fit all of your work essentials within it, then you could invest in a “day bag”. These bags have more pockets than the briefcase, and perhaps have the hand held and over the shoulder option for a little change up to the outfit. I love this Chloe Medium Edith day bag which feels very 70’s in the styling, whereas this Michael Kors day bag in cream works beautifully for a chic look, with the added bonus of two sections within the bag.

Bags for Mums

Mums need a little more robust, larger bags than those for the work place as we need to be able to bring quite a variety of things with us to locations we are visiting! From snacks to nappies, the bags need to make sure we’re able to quickly take care of our little ones, without losing our personal style along the way.

Large satchels

Satchels are a great option for Mums on the go, as they remain stylish and offer a large amount of pockets, zips, and variety. When you place the satchel as a cross body option, this also helps make sure you’re not leaving all of the weight to your side, and you can easily run after children or pick them up without worrying about your bag falling off your shoulder. The 15 inch Batchel by Cambridge Satchel is available not only in the classic brown leather colour, but also red, black, navy, green, blue and many more – so the world is your oyster when choosing the colours that match your personal style.

This large DKNY satchel with three compartments is a dream for Mums with more than one child, or for going out with kids and the whole family for an event. Pop the snacks in one area, your purse, phone and personal items in another, and then toys in the middle!

Backpacks for Mums

If you need to have both hands free or prefer to have the weight of your bag over both shoulders, you can’t go wrong with a backpack – it’s a classic for a reason. This Aurore backpack by Aruku has a beautiful tiger pattern inside and is a fun, good-sized bag for a Mum – and has the extra bonus  of a safe zip section by your back.

However, if you prefer more compartments and organisation in your backpack, look for an option that has multiple zip areas or even separators. This Tiba + Marl Elwood woven backpack not only has 2 front zip-up pockets, but it also comes with a batching purse and internal padded laptop sleeve, two large internal elasticated pockets and a smart phone pocket – the organisation options are endless!

Handbags for special occasions

Now, I’ve talked about the day to day lifestyles we lead, but what about the one-off special occasions or date nights? This is where you can reduce the size of your bag, and up the level of personality!

Clutch bags

Clutch bags are great for evening events and events that you are attending that need minimal extras to take with you. These bags are often just big enough for a phone, your small purse, and maybe a lipstick for when you go to powder your nose. However, what they don’t have in size, they have in a huge array of patterns, fabrics and colours! From animal print zip up clutch bags to pastel clutches with metal accents, or even a glitter rainbow clutch – you’re in for a treat when looking for a clutch bag – but remember, check that it will be the right size for your essentials before investing!

Small crossbody bags

If you need a little more space, and  a way to pull in your outer wear as you travel to your event, a crossover body bag is a great option, and also comes in a large range of patterns and colours. While I love my classic black – because it goes with everything, I also occasionally bring a little fun through the colourful collections I have. You can add a little flair to your crossover body bag with changing up the straps – some designers, such as Elie Beaumont – offer this as an addition to your bag, so you transform your outfit in a snap.

You can also play with the way you style your crossover bag and flip it – to just one shoulder! The great thing about the size of most of the crossover body bags in fashion is that they don’t take over the outfit, like this small yet stylish chain mini crossover bag in dusky pink by Tommy Hilfiger, as it has the chain styling for a bit of an edgy look.

Do you love your handbags, or are you just beginning to take an interest in them? I hope some of these options inspire you to invest in this diverse and fun accessory.
